With the Real Housewives craze, and now the new show, Botched, hyaluronic acid fillers have gotten a bad rap. Fillers like Juvederm, Restylane, and Voluma are fantastic products, and when done right, can provide amazing and beautiful results. The programs mentioned above tend to show women who have overdone their fillers. Whether this was at their request, or the idea of the injecting provider is something we don’t know. All we see is the unnatural and sometimes scary result. With this post, I hope to alleviate some of the fear associated with filler injections so the average woman realizes that these injections are not only safe, but also effective.
The ideal situation for filler injections is to have a provider with a good aesthetic eye who relays a realistic expectation of the product to the patient. Despite what is portrayed on E!, it takes much more effort and money to overdo a filler than to create a subtle and simultaneously, remarkable change for the patient.
The role of fillers:
Fillers are very effective at decreasing the appearance of fine and deep wrinkles, adding some youthful volume to the face, and (gradually and slightly) enhancing lip or cheek contour.
My perception of fillers:
When I inject dermal fillers, my goal is to “young up” the face rather than to completely change facial appearance altogether. When discussing filler, I show the patient in the mirror what they can reasonably expect from the injection so there is little to no surprise with final result. Unlike the providers on the real housewives of such and such county, I tend to be light handed with my filler injections, as more can always be added, but it is difficult to remove. This way, we keep the process both cost-effective and subtle.
What I want for you:
At Evolve Medical Spa, my goal as the medical provider is to inject filler in a safe, subtle, and effective manner. The end result will lead to comments such as “You look so rested!” or “Your skin looks great!” or “Wow, you just look so good” rather than have you unrecognizable to your friends and family as they wonder what in the world you have done.
Come by for a free consultation to see if fillers are right for you! I look forward to meeting you.
